The Presbytery Mission Plan

The Church of Scotland Presbytery Mission Plan Act requires each Presbytery to develop and annually review a strategic deployment plan for ministries within its bounds.

From Abraham, through the prophets to the disciples of Jesus, mission was always at the heart and it is no different for Christians today. It was never about where we worship, but rather about WHO we worship and we have been called by Jesus to follow Him and to make disciples– we are now the ones required to fish for people.

The Church has been aided in its ability to define mission by the emergence of, and acceptance of, the so-called Five Marks of Mission. Though every such scheme has its limitations, the General Assembly has enthusiastically endorsed this one as being most helpful to us at this time.

The Five Marks of Mission are as follows:

• To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom

• To teach, baptize and nurture new believers

• To respond to human need by loving service

• To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind

and pursue peace and reconciliation

• To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth developed.
